Women Of The Lens Film Digital Broadcast Festival General Submissions Guidelines 2019
What We’re About
Women Of The Lens Film Digital Broadcast Festival is an annual live screening event that celebrates the achievement of Black British women/of colour in the film, digital and broadcast mediums.
Launched in November 2017 by Founder/Director Jennifer G. Robinson, the Festival contributes to redressing the imbalance of Black women’s representation in film, broadcast and digital mediums.
When Does It All Happen?
Venue: The Close Up Film Centre, 97 Sclater Street, London E1 6HR
Dates: Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Saturday 9th November 2019 (these may be subject to change; follow our social media for immediate updates: @womenofthelens)
What Are We Looking For?
Choices in programming are dictated by productions that challenge and/or contribute to changing the status quo of Black women/of colour who’re underrepresented in the industry – both in front of and behind the camera. We ask questions about your crew i.e. do you have Black women/of colour in key decision-making positions, for example producer, editor, director, script? If Black women/of colour are in acting roles, to what extent are audiences following her narrative or is she just an addendum in standard narration? We are looking for change.
We will consider productions of any genre i.e. romance, romantic comedy, horror, children’s, comedy, thriller, action adventure, animation, sci-fi, fashion, drama, experimental, dance (not music videos), documentary, webseries, feature, short-film, broadcast, radio, digital, etc. We will ask the same questions of all genres.
Be it for this Festival or any other, independent filmmakers must be ready for the promotional aspects of the industry. In order for you to make the best out of what the Festival has to offer in terms of promotion, be prepared to have a comprehensive Media Kit/EPK which at least contains the following:
- Film stills of actors/characters
- Film stills
- High-resolution, head and shoulder shots of director, producer, other key crew
- Film poster(s)
- Cast/Crew bios
- Film reviews (if you have them)
- Synopsis long and short version
- Run-time and other key credits
- Production Country of Origin
- Any previous awards?
- Production website or an online landing page
- Social media handles for the film and if not, at least the Director and/or Producer handles
(this list is not exhaustive)
You’ll have a lot of information and large files so be prepared to store these and make them easily accessible via dropbox or Google Drive, or MEGA or some other file sharing platform. Many of these platforms have basic offers that are free and will be sufficient for your immediate needs.
