WHY WE'RE HERE
Women Of The Lens Film Digital Broadcast Festival was created because the underrepresentation of British black women and women of colour in the creative industries remains stubbornly low.
Created by Jennifer G. Robinson, the Festival aims to reveal the complexity, diversity and multiplicities of women who're ordinarily overlooked in the conventional media-sphere. Their stories are our stories...human stories with varied narratives and as such, wider audiences beyond those of colour can truly engage with complex tales that move beyond the common tropes reserved for these women in typical media representations.
At Women Of The Lens, we want to create a space, which attracts women within the industry and those who have vested interests in the industry. The Festival aims to build reciprocal relationships that nurture and builds careers. We want to share knowledge which signposts opportunities and develops ideas.
The Festival welcomes productions from men and allies who genuinely seek to challenge representations of black women and women of colour in front of and behind the camera.
Women Of The Lens debuted
10th November 2017 at Curzon Goldsmiths, followed by core programming on 24th, 25th and 26th November at The Cinema Museum. We hope you can join us as the Festival looks forward to continuing in 2018 and beyond.
